11/1/2007: Thoughts for a happy, fulfilling work life: Be careful what others may tell you; There’s an entire army of so-called "life and career coaches" making a killing on naïve, midlife career changers. These people tell their gullible audiences, "Go for your dream! Give it all you've got! You can do it!" They offer quick, often not very deep, motivation fixes to some of life's biggest challenges. Sorry, from my over 40 years in the work place, there are few, if any, quick fixes or formulas for instant success. 8/1/2007: New roles of fathers in America; Fathers of past generations were expected to work and provide the money while mothers stayed at home and took care of the children and the house. Those roles began to change and merge in the early to mid '50s. But, even up to the mid '60s, when I graduated from high school and attended college, girls primarily had three choices: stay at home, get a job and/or get married and start a family. And, most of the girls in my senior class of 1960 who went to college majored in teaching or nursing. My how times have changed!
